Two weeks ago we got a car to replace Bessie, our busted up Jeep. It was a tough decision to replace a Jeep with a car, but I think it's a good and smart decision... for now. We figured we could use the car for driving anywhere that we didn't need the truck and we could save gas, and save putting miles on the truck (miles: a measure of distance, not the dog, smart-ass).
The car is a 1997 Audi A4 Quattro. It is an automatic all-wheel-drive with only 44000 miles on it. We got it from a friend who buys salvage vehicles that were in an accident and fixes them up. This one got hit real bad on the driver's side door, but you would never notice it. We got it for a totally sweet deal, and we should be able to sell it later without much loss. That was one of the reason we decided to go for an Audi. The price, AWD, and mileage was too good to pass up. I've already needed the AWD more than once in the past two weeks.
I've been driving it to work alot and I forgot how much I miss driving a car. Before this, we had a truck and a Jeep. You can't really drive too fast or take corners too hard with those vehicles. Navigating a car is much easier than a big vehicle. I feel like I am sitting on the ground and I can see what's going on much better. The ride is awesome, and the handling is phenomenal. This is German engineering at it's finest. I've been poking around the car and engine, and I am amazed at the quality and engineering that went into the vehicle. They definitely did not mess around when they designed this car.
So we now have a car which is good economically, but maybe not good in the fun department when it gets warm. But this will only be a temporary thing, until a Jeep sounds more reasonable from the money standpoint. In the meantime, I am going to enjoy driving a car again, as long as I still have a truck... :)

When you stomp on the gas to pass someone, it doesn't throw you forward really. It growls softly, grips and muscles forward effortlessly. The Acura was more demonstrative, I guess than the Audi. What amazes me is that you can be that low to the ground and never feel a bump in the road. I do like it... but it's not a Jeep.
