For the demented frequenters of this site, it may come as no surprise to you that I have been moonlighting elsewhere. I recently joined a parenting site called Parentography and have been writing reviews and recommendations of kid friendly excursions throughout the U.S. In the last month I've compiled quite a little collection, enough to earn me the numero uno ranking on the site and a profile piece in the Parentography newsletter. You can scope out my reviews here.
To those of you who have found us by wandering off Parentography, welcome to our corner of the blogosphere! We serve up baby babble, political nonsense, and a healthy dose of sarcasm daily. George and I are Utah transplants who were mesmerized by the mountains several years ago and are now trapped in the suburbs with the rest of the child bearing populace. We have a passion for travel, specifically camping and hiking, that continues to drain our wallet and fill our lives with wonder and satisfaction. Our one year old son, Owen, and our two Labradors Miles (aged 3) and Timber (aged 2) are along for the ride. I periodically give my long winded opinions about all manner of baby paraphernalia, the few movies we manage to stay awake for, and any other items whose novelty impresses me weekly in the We Recommend section, which you'll find located in the sidebar. I also offer up parenting observations and commiserations in my sporadic "Memoirs on Mommihood" postings. Now that you've found us, we hope you'll come back and visit our home on the Internets often, where the journey into traveling, toddlerhood and total insanity never ends.
Posted by Kaz at February 23, 2007 11:51 AMDon't forget your rants against all things Republican.
Posted by: Holly at February 25, 2007 9:26 AMI wouldn't categorize it as Republican bashing. George and I are actually old school Republicans- you know- small government, limited social programs, conservative fiscal policies. But since the party has become hijacked by the religious right, I guess we've soured on defining ourselves as Republicans. Neither are we Democrats, however. I don't enjoy their "it takes a village to raise a child" crap. So for now, let's say Independent with liberal, open minded foreign policies based on diplomacy and conservative fiscal and domestic agendas. Doesn't fit nicely into a slogan, does it?
Posted by: kaz at February 25, 2007 12:32 PMI think Hillary Clinton wrote a book called "It takes a Village." but I am fairly certain the Democratic party hasn't written that into their national platform. So not sure you can paint them all with that.
Not sure why that is all that objectionable. I never read that book, so I am not too sure what the hell she was talking about.
Also "So for now, let's say Independent with liberal, open minded foreign policies based on diplomacy and conservative fiscal and domestic agendas" is pretty much a textbook definition of a "CLINTON DEMOCRAT". He reduced welfare, grew the economy and balanced the budget.
OLD REPUBLICAN = NEW DEMOCRAT
As a screaming liberal I find allot of Clintonian policy vomit worthy, but you independent types ought to find it spectacular.
Posted by: Reed at February 26, 2007 9:45 AMWe're not so bad Reed. I still think universal healthcare is a great idea.
Posted by: kaz at February 26, 2007 12:23 PMI know you guys aren't bad. You are smart. It just baffles me when people romanticize old timey republicans. Are you like Ronald Reagan? Giant defense spending and illegal wars and CIA drug smuggling. Or are you more like Richard Nixon? Giant deficits, illegal wars and FBI actively eroding the US constitution?
When were these old school republicans around? and who were they?
Posted by: reed at February 26, 2007 1:16 PMI agree that the romanticizing of Ronald Reagan is ridiculous and has little foundation in reality. I guess the kind of conservatism I'm talking about is Goldwater- more of the libertarian than the Republican. Or we could reach really far back into the the roots of the Republican party and pull out Mr. Abe Lincoln. Although it ticks me off that he did suspend habeas corpus but he had a hell of a good reason. This whole two party system is totally bogus anyway. I don't think anyone is getting it right and it sucks having to choose a lesser evil rather than a greater good.
If I didn't work for democrats I would probably call myself an independent too. But "Old School REpublicans" never really existed. Name the last republican President to balance a budget....
Yeah, I can't either. Republicans are just for welfare for the rich, rather then the poor.
Lincoln was not a republican by modern standards and Since the Dixicrats joined the REpublican party they are pretty much the oppisite of lincoln.
