In Treatment

in%20treatment.jpg Starved for drama after the long enduring writer's strike, George and I were delighted to discover this new HBO series, In Treatment. Starring the fabulous Gabriel Byrne as a psychotherapist, this series is chocked full of acting talent and scenes that will have you holding your breath. Each evening's offering is a new session in Paul's client list. For example, Monday is the sexy, intense Laura for whom Paul is trying to resist a powerful attraction. Tuesday is Alex, the condescending Navy Pilot whose ability to push his buttons makes him question his ability to be a therapist. Wednesday is Sophie, the young, sexually abused and suicidal girl who challenges Paul to create a trusting environment and guide her back towards a relationship with her mother. Thursday is a couple, Jake and Amy, who struggle to hold onto a marriage riddled with infertility, jealousy and blame. Friday Paul has his own session with Gina, a past colleague, who tries to help him to come to terms with his feelings about his patients and his wife's infidelity. When it comes to drama, it doesn't get more compelling than a therapist's couch. Catch it on HBO weeknights at 9:30.

Kate Nash: Made of Bricks

kate%20nash.jpgWhile the waves of the second British invasion have been reaching our shores for awhile, I'm just catching on. Kate Nash is a British pianist and singer who joins a chorus of voices, including Amy Winehouse, that are changing the landscape of music. Her bare vocals, sassy style and jaunty piano tunes turned pop are incredible catchy and hard to resist. I especially like the first single off of this album, "Foundations," but found myself quickly humming along to several other tunes. Check out the album for yourself- you'll quickly recognize that women in music today don't have to be divas or junkie rock stars to make an impression.
